Fa La La La La

Currently: At that awkward place where I've reached a good stopping point in my studying, but I'm unsure if I should go home or try and keep working or eat dinner or what. Gahhhh.
Currently Listening To: my Ben Rector Pandora station. It's the best, really.

Just a lil something pretty and Christmasy. It's really all I can offer you right now. Sorry.
P.S. Check back tomorrow to hear about the Civil Wars!

P.S Again: My housemate Kathleen wanted all of y'all to see this stellar example of a latte (she texted this picture to me and said "I feel like you might want to put this Shen Joe latte on your blog. It looks and was THAT good." I said that I didn't know how to get it on my computer, so if she could I would. And she did. What a woman). Shout out to Shenandoah Joe's for this artisitc wonder. Also, raise your hand if you want coffee now.. (aka me. I'm raising my hand.)

SO. TYPICAL.

Classes finished yesterday and today is a reading day -- aka the first day of full-on studying. And this is how I got started studying:
  1. Lay on the couch and talk to my housemates. Take a test to determine my love languages. Try and decide whether or not to study at home or go somewhere else.
  2. One by one, my housemates leave to their various studying. I am alone. Try and figure out where to go study.
  3. Make a sandwich. (This may have included catching a paper towel on fire in the toaster oven. Don't worry about it.) Decide to go study at the Center for Christian Study (aka the Stud).
  4. Change, get my stuff together, find an umbrella, head out. Time: 12:55
  5. Get to the Stud. Food was just delivered, so everyone is milling around, eating pizza. Talk to some friends.
  6. Try and find a place to sit. Realize there is no room at the inn Stud because of so many eager studiers (...students?). Finally find a seat in a different room.
  7. Get out my computer. Try and get online. It doesn't work. Keep trying. Realize that it's not going to work.
  8. Friends Emily and David show up and say they are going to a different library because of the whole internet situation.
  9. Walk across grounds with Emily and David to the Health Sciences Library.
  10. See more people I know. Talk to them.
  11. Sit down, get computer out, FINALLY get started working. Time: 2:00.
The thing is, that it took me over an hour from leaving my house to actually getting started working, is just so sadly typical.

Bring on another season of exam studying.

Christmas Jams (The Good Ones)

Quote Love: "Someone hit you with the pretty stick!" - Lorelai Gilmore. (Episode 9 now...)

I don't know about you guys, but I've been somewhat disappointed and even borderline appalled by the original Christmas songs I've been hearing on the radio. They're just not very good, and it makes me wish people would just stick to carols. (Or the classics.) But then I remembered that there are actually some good original Christmas (/New Year's/winter/etc.) songs out there, which I do love, and my faith was restored! Here are my favorites:

(Any other good ones I should know about?)

Thought Of The Day

Currently Watching: Gilmore Girls. (Season 1. We started it earlier today, we're on episode 6 now. Seeing as all seven seasons are at our house, this is either our greatest victory or our biggest downfall. I'll keep you posted.)

Phoneless

I've been phoneless for about four days now. My phone was a fighter, especially given the whole lawnmower situation, but it finally gave up the ghost this week. It's a weird thing, y'all. On the one hand, I really don't like how dependent we all are on our phones, how it feels wrong when you forgot it and then you end up late because your phone is also your clock. I don't like smart phones, either, or the idea of being constantly connected. So it was kind of freeing to go a few days without any ability to text or call, and just throw to the wind the fact that maybe people were trying to get a hold of me and thought I was ignoring them. (But then again, maybe no one was trying to get a hold of me. Who knows.)

But on the other hand, when I wanted to meet up with people after my Thursday night class at Lighting of the Lawn and I had no idea how I was going to find my friends among the 50 bajillion people there, or yesterday when I was in the middle of a huge mental crisis about which of two dress options to buy for our semi-formal tonight and all I wanted to do was call my sister and get a second opinion...a phone just would have been useful.

Point being, today I'm getting a new phone (which is really an old phone of someone else's...kind of like how my 'new car' was my grandma's old car? my life is a series of hand-me-downs.) And then I will be back in the world of constant communication. With mixed emotions about it.

It's Time.

We rang in December with this song at midnight last night.
(It might have been playing on repeat since then, too. Don't worry about it.)

Aaand the countdown to Christmas begins now!

Almost! FInally! (Hopefully?)

Do you guys remember how I didn't see the Civil Wars back in February? And then I got all excited because they were coming back to Cville? And how I bought my tickets for it back in like August?

What I didn't tell you was that they canceled the show the week before it happened, because Joy had laryngitis. There were tears and general disappointment, and they rescheduled the show for December 7th and we were all like that is so far away.

Not anymore though -- it's only a week away now! I'm so looking forward to finally using that ticket that's been stashed in my desk for three months now. It will be the perfect way to celebrate classes being done and finals being about to start (wait, what?). And I am so looking forward to telling all y'all how wonderful it was afterwards. (I mean, just look at how happy they look in the above video...)

And as an added bonus, the free iTunes download of the week is a Civil Wars Christmas song!!! Get it. Now.
